❄️New Year: New Freebie

Hi Reader,

Happy New Year!

As we begin a new year, this is a great time to bring fresh energy and curiosity into your classroom. Here is a powerful way to do that through a partial classroom transformation.

My students traveled to Antarctica last week. No planes required, just imagination, curiosity, and a partial classroom transformation. They stepped into the role of wildlife researchers, exploring one of the most fascinating places on Earth while learning real geography and science along the way.

Some of the facts they could not stop talking about were:

  • You do not need a passport within Antarctica.
  • Penguins, whales, and seals call it home.
  • The continent has only two seasons, winter and summer.

They were especially intrigued by the journey across the Drake Passage and loved comparing the calm “Drake Lake” to the famously rough “Drake Shake.” We also explored how no country owns Antarctica because of the Antarctic Treaty, which protects the continent for peace and science.

The students got to wear warm weather clothes for this day, which was a hoot because we're from sunny south Florida. They used a kiddie camera to take pictures of the wildlife in our classroom. We might have some future wildlife photographers in here!

For the first time ever I have created a FREE download so you can bring this same Antarctica transformation into your own classroom. It includes 37 pages of content, a teacher guide, packing list and research pages for students, digital images of animals to print, and drawing pages for creative responses. I also included a list of my Amazon affiliate links for the items I used to set up the experience, so everything is in one place.

If this resource helps you or sparks an idea, I would be so grateful if you would help spread the word to other teachers. I am working to grow my Passport Adventures community, and word of mouth from fellow educators means everything.

You can also follow along with our classroom journeys on my Instagram account, where I share transformations, ideas, and behind-the-scenes moments.

January is a fresh page, and even small adventures can bring big energy into our classrooms.

I would love to hear from you. If you could travel anywhere with your students this year, where would you go?

Have a wonderful week!❤️

Hi Reader, This week we are hopping across the Atlantic and heading straight for Scotland, and I have to tell you, this has been one of my favorite places to bring into our classroom. If you are looking for a simple, joyful, and engaging way to help your students “travel” there without ever leaving school, I truly think the best starting point is art, specifically drawing Highland cows, or as the Scots affectionately call them, hairy coos. A hairy coo with Loch Ness behind it There is...

Hi Reader, I want to start this week with something that really caught my attention. A news story that came out recently shared how some children are beginning to lose regional accents, and social media may be playing a role. Because kids are constantly hearing the same voices, phrases, and speech patterns online, linguists say language is starting to sound more uniform. It’s a fascinating shift, and also one that made me pause and reflect on what our students are absorbing every day. 📱It...

Hi Reader, As we come to the final days of the year, I just want to pause and say thank you. Thank you for the creativity, patience, and heart you bring into your classroom every single day. This work matters, and so do you. 💛 I hope this break gives you space to truly relax, breathe a little deeper, and spend time doing the things that fill you up, whether that’s resting, traveling, reading, creating, or simply being present with the people you love. You’ve earned it. ❄️✨ As we head into the...
