Hi Reader, For years I struggled with teaching my students about social studies. It's the reason why I started creating Passport Adventures for my students. But today I want to share with you another resource that has made a huge impact on my class. 🤯 Recently, Jess Wurzbacher, connected with me on Instagram (gotta love social media!) to tell me about Reach the World. She's the manager of the K-12 programs for this incredible organization. Reach the World uses global networking to connect classrooms with real people (not AI bots 🙌🏻) living abroad. There are free programs a teacher can select for their classroom to educate the students about a specific place/region in the world. The Explorer Program gives students the opportunity to see live expeditions up close through videos, articles written by the explorer, and live-stream events. Some of the current and past Explorer Programs your class could get involved with include:
My students have been using Reach the World's programs for a few months now and LOVE IT. This has been a fantastic way to teach them about places around the world. There is also a paid Traveler Program your classroom can be a part of, but I'd definitely start by checking out the Explorer Program to get a feel for how Reach the World works. I will be sharing more about how I've used this program in my classroom in the coming months, but hope that you go take a look at their website today. Your class could easily learn about an expedition before the school year ends. ☺️ Next week I'll share another platform that is all about sharing teaching strategies. This will be a game-changer for professional development and ways teachers can share information with one another. Stay tuned!🌟 Got any questions about Reach the World? Respond to this email and let me know. Have a wonderful week! |
I show teachers how to make kids feel like they're traveling the world. I've been teaching for 18 years and have spoken at educator conferences in multiple countries. My 30+ travel lessons are made for early childhood students and cover places aroudnd the globe 🌎
Hi Reader, My husband and I are traveling in South America right now. We had a 10 hour layover in Bogotá, Colombia on our way down here, which was perfect because it gave us the opportunity to leave the airport for awhile and explore. This city is so colorful! We took a guided tour through La Candelaria, which is Bogotá's oldest neighborhood. It was established in 1538 and its Spanish-style buildings and cobblestone streets date back centuries. One of the many cobblestone streets in Bogotá...
Hi Reader, This week I am going to let one of my students take over teaching. Why? Because it's almost the end of the year and I'm exhausted...KIDDING! 🤣 My class will be "traveling" to Haiti on Friday. Several of my classroom families are from Haiti. One of my students, Laurryn, is extremely proud that her dad is from there. Her eyes lit up when I told the class last week we were heading to Haiti...the class has been waiting all year for this day! 🤔So how I am going to have a 6 year old...
Hi Reader, It's hard to believe, but here we are, just a few weeks from the finish line. You've taught lessons, wiped tears, tied shoes, cheered kids on, and probably answered a thousand questions a day. You've shown up, even on the hardest mornings. And you've created a space where your students feel safe, seen, and inspired. That's not small. That's magic. These final weeks can feel long and emotional- full of energy, excitement, and exhaustion. But they're also a time of celebration,...
