This Passport Adventure was created to take kindergarten-second grade students on a journey through Cairo, Egypt.
It starts at the Cairo Tower for a bird's eye view of where to go:
They will pretend to cruise along the Nile River on a felucca, remembering the stories of Moses, the 10 plagues, and escape from Egypt. There is a YouTube video of mine showing your students the Nile.
After cruising along the Nile, it's time to head to the Egyptian Museum to learn a bit about mummies. Note- there are no real pictures of mummies in the lesson, because places where we saw them prohibited the use of photography. There is one picture I was allowed to take and is included at the very end of the lesson. It's at the end of the lesson in case you feel it's too creepy to show your students.
Once they've learned a bit about mummies, it's time to head to where the mummies were: the pyramids! Your students will pretend to visit the Giza, Dahshur, and Saqqara pyramids. They'll also pretend to visit the Sphinx and ride camels around Giza. Several YouTube videos of mine are included about the pyramids and Sphinx. I have to give a special shout-out to my Egyptian tour guide, Sherif, for joining me in the videos and for teaching me all of the information provided about the pyramids!
Your students will also learn about and pretend to visit Coptic Cairo and see St. Sergius- where it's believed Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus lived when they fled to Egypt to escape King Herod.
After Coptic Cairo, it will be time to visit Khan El Khalil market to learn about bartering and see popular Egyptian souvenirs.
All of the pictures from Egypt are mine, taken from my trip to Cairo. YouTube videos are included throughout the lesson, showing your students places such as inside several pyramids, the Sphinx, the Nile, and camel rides.
There is a drawing activity at the very end to give your students time to reflect and to draw themselves in Cairo. Enjoy!
